This study investigates the quality variation patterns of cotton stored under nitrogen enrichment, vacuum, and natural environmental conditions. Six key indicators of cotton quality, including micronaire value, reflectance, yellowness, length, length uniformity, and strength, were tracked and tested over a period of 16 months. Data were processed and analyzed using machine learning and statistical analysis methods. The conclusion drawn is that under the three storage conditions: natural environment, ni- trogen enrichment and vacuum, the variations in the micronaire value, length, uniformity and strength of the cotton are all within the allowable measurement error range, indicating no significant differences in the changes of these indicators under the three storage conditions. The reflectance under all three storage conditions showed a clear downward trend, with the vacuum storage condition exhibiting a slower rate of decline compared to nitrogen enrichment and the natural environment. The yellowness values under all three storage conditions significantly increased over time, with the rate of increase being the fastest under nitrogen enrichment. This research provides new insights into cotton storage methods and offers data support. By deeply analyzing the variation patterns of quality indicators of cotton under the three storage conditions, this study is instructive for optimizing cotton storage technology.

Cotton official classification is an important technical support to promote the reform of cotton target price policy, but also an important guarantee to implement the effective supervision of cotton and promote the improvement of cotton quality. In 2023, the key indicators of cotton in Hami region increased significantly, with an average length of 29.29 mm, 0.39 mm higher than the average length of cotton in 2022, the average fracture ratio intensity of 29.86 cN/tex, 1.31 cN/tex more than 2022, 93.42% of cot- ton has reached up-to Micronaire value A + B grade, 7.07 percentage points more than that in 2022, reaching the national standard of high-quality cotton. There are some problems regarding cotton color grade and cotton consistency. The cause for the problems includes seed quality, cotton field management, and cotton harvesting, purchasing and processing. This paper has proposed the es- tablishment of a cooperation platform between industry-university-research to promote the development of modern agriculture, to construct the high-standard farmland, and to promote the high-quality development of cotton industry, characterizing modernization, intelligence and information of cotton production. Finally, there are four suggestions to strengthen quality supervision and technical assistance.
