Bamboo shoot shell cellulose was extracted from bamboo shoot shells using caustic soda treatment. Superabsorbent polymer(SAP) was prepared from bamboo shoot shell carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) as the grafting skeleton, acrylic acid(AA) and acrylamide(AM) as monomers. The successful preparation of SAP was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy analysis. Single-factor experiments and orthogonal experiments were used to optimize the preparation conditions as follows: CMC dosage of 16%, m (AA):m (AM)=4:1, neutralization degree of acrylic acid at 60%, initiator dosage of 3.5%, crosslinking agent dosage of 1.5%, and the reaction was carried out at 60 ℃ for 1.5 hours. The SAP had absorption capacity of 518 g/g and salt tolerance capacity of 55 g/g. At room temperature, its water retention rate was as high as 99%, and it can be reused for multiple water absorp- tions, reaching 55.6% of the saturated absorption capacity within 1 hour.
